Levocetirizine in Setimed inhibits the histamine-mediated early phase of the allergic reaction and also reduces the migration of certain inflammatory cells and the release of certain mediators associated with the late allergic response.
Each film coated tablet contains: levocetirizine dihydrochloride – 5 mg
Tablet must be taken orally, swallowed whole with liquid and may be taken with or without food.
Adults and adolescents 6 years and above: the daily recommended dose is 5 mg (one film-coated tablet) once daily.
Setimed is not recommended for use in children below age 6 due to insufficient data on safety and efficacy.
Elderly.
For the time being, there is no data to suggest that the dose needs to be reduced in elderly patients provided that the renal function is normal.
Dose Adjustment for Renal and Hepatic Impairment:
Moderate renal impairment (CLCR = 30-50 mL/min): a dose of 2.5 mg once every other day is recommended;
Severe renal impairment (CLCR = 10-30 mL/min): a dose of 2.5 mg twice weekly (administered once every 3-4 days) is recommended;
