Prescription

Levocetirizine in Setimed inhibits the histamine-mediated early phase of the allergic reaction and also reduces the migration of certain inflammatory cells and the release of certain mediators associated with the late allergic response.

Composition

Each film coated tablet contains: levocetirizine dihydrochloride – 5 mg

Indications for use

  • Relief of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
  • Relief of symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticarial
  • Angioedema
  • Itching
  • Allergic reactions to food, medicines and other allergens, allergic reactions to insect stings. Comprehensive treatment (atopic dermatitis, eczema, contact dermatitis, etc.)

Mode of administration

Tablet must be taken orally, swallowed whole with liquid and may be taken with or without food.
Adults and adolescents 6 years and above: the daily recommended dose is 5 mg (one film-coated tablet) once daily.
Setimed is not recommended for use in children below age 6 due to insufficient data on safety and efficacy.
Elderly.
For the time being, there is no data to suggest that the dose needs to be reduced in elderly patients provided that the renal function is normal.
Dose Adjustment for Renal and Hepatic Impairment:
Moderate renal impairment (CLCR = 30-50 mL/min): a dose of 2.5 mg once every other day is recommended;
Severe renal impairment (CLCR = 10-30 mL/min): a dose of 2.5 mg twice weekly (administered once every 3-4 days) is recommended;
